With one more week of league games to go before a 2 weekend/2 tournament stretch, the Cubs are getting hot. This weekend we split our double header but even in the loss the positives were becoming more evident, and the bats were looking hot.
Defensively the team showed heart and focus and even when losing, us coaches felt like we were playing baseball and just getting beat. A few bad beats at the plate slowed a late rally and proved to be a teaching moment as two of our batters were called out for interference on throws down to third base in back-to-back at bats. (but I believe the umps kid was on the opposing team so…)
The boys have been showing their understanding that a team plays like it practices and have been digging in during the week. Let’s keep up the good work this week as well.
Matt Bacon got his season debut coaching third base, and I thought it was great to overhear the boys getting a different perspective on how to read the game. Great job Matt!!
The weekend was punctuated by outstanding play at shortstop and second base.
In other news, the Eli vs Camden homerun race is officially on with Camden letting me know he wasn’t happy about being passed by Eli this weekend. Hopefully the lead changes hands many more times this season.
Last but not least, a very special Happy Birthday to Ben. Oh wait, and a speedy recovery to Kai, who had a BMX accident and in on the 10 day IR.
